Black Diamond

Innovation and Reliability

The roots of Black Diamond Equipment trace back to 1957, when 18-year-old Yvon Chouinard bought a hammer and anvil and started pounding out hand-forged rock climbing pitons. Over the next several decades, those first chromoly pitons-followed by a steady stream of other radical, game-changing products-forever altered the sport of climbing, such that its history can't be told without mention of Black Diamon's product innovations.

Because Black Diamond is a company of climbers and freeride enthusiasts dedicated to producing the best climbing and ski gear possible, all of the products they manufacture and sell are constantly tested and improved upon. As of October 27, 1998, Black Diamond received ISO certification. ISO 9001 certification serves as a control process for companies with systems already in place to monitor design, manufacturing and testing. Black Diamond's current certification helps to underscore their continuing commitment to producing the best gear possible

Black Diamond spares no amount of effort or innovation in utilizing the latest technologies and materials to produce their equipment, be it hydroforming ice tools, carbon fiber shafts in trekking poles or double-faceted reflectors in their lanterns. The result is gear far superior in design and performance to anything else out there.
