THE STORY:
This book coaster was inspired by the 1971 printing of the Last Whole Earth Catalog.
As a curious craftsman, outdoor kid and teenage entrepreneur in the early 70s I would spend hours pouring over its pages and filling my head with countless ideas and inspiration. Powerful stuff for someone coming of age and searching for who & what kind of person to become. These words on page 1 resonated. "The WHOLE EARTH CATALOG functions as an evaluation and access device. With it, the user should know better what is worth getting and where and how to do the getting." ".......power of the individual to conduct his own education, find his own inspiration, shape his own environment, and share his adventure with whoever is interested. Tools that aid this process are sought and promoted by the WHOLE EARTH CATALOG."
In a speech Steve Jobs delivered in 2005 he compared it to "sort of Google in paperback form."
My hope is that this unique coaster brings back happy memories and sparks many interesting conversations." -John D. Mead
