THE STORY:
The Mojave Desert is within a several hour drive for most Southern Californians. This is where Joshua Trees flourish. They are known for their unique appearance, long lifespan and slow growth. Truth be known, they are not really a tree, but a species of yucca whose common name came from Mormon settlers that thought it's shape resembled the biblical figure Joshua raising his arms in prayer.
Joshua Tree National Park at the southern end of the Mojave Desert is a haven for outdoor folks who enjoy exploring the desert and for rock climbers who have endless choices for world class climbing routes of all difficulties. It was a beautiful and ideal location in the fall, winter and spring for A16 to conduct backpacking and climbing courses.
