THE STORY:
At 14,508' elevation, Mt Whitney is the highest point in the contiguous United States. There are 4 primary approaches to the summit. There are 2 well maintained trails. One from the eastside starting at Whitney Portal (15 Miles West of Lone Pine, CA), and one from the West starting in Crabtree Meadows, along the Pacific Crest Trail. Optional summit routes are a mountaineering approach on the North side, and technical climbing routes on its East face. This colorful and spirited photograph of Mt. Whitney and its surrounding peaks is our favorite. The majestic and rugged portion of the Sierra Nevada range that John Muir described as "The Range of Light" was featured on our first catalog in the early 70s, so we consider the mountain a part of our DNA. If that's possible. If not, it's certainly close to our hearts, and the main trailhead is a 6 hour drive from our SoCal roots.
